Sound Submission Guidelines
Recording Instructions
1. Selecting the location
- Find a place on campus that you would like to record
- When in your desired spot, look for an open/ unrestricted area
- Try your best to find a spot with the most sounds in your soundscape
2. Preparing to Record
- Line up the phone or microphone with your keynote
- Before recording, make sure that you are standing with your phone screen facing upwards
- Hold your phone on its sides, making sure that you are not blocking your speakers in any way
- Hold your phone at about shoulder height, ~12 inches away from you
3. Recording Process
- Once you have started recording, do not breathe into your phone or talk
- Make sure to not muffle or mess with the microphone
- Try not to move at all and record for 2 minutes
4. Post-Recording
- Once you have stopped your recording, listen to your audio to check its quality
- If your audio sounds good, then you’re done
- If not, repeat steps 1-7
Metadata
Environmental Conditions:
- Note The temperature and weather conditions using a weather app.
Visual Documentation:
- Take a photo of your surroundings. This helps in visually representing the environment where the audio was recorded.
Time and Date:
- Document the exact time and date of the recording. Soundscapes can vary significantly depending on the time of day or year.
Personal Notes:
- Write a brief entry about your experience. Include observations about the sounds you heard, any notable events happening at the time, or your personal reflections on the soundscape.
File Naming:
- When saving your recording, name the file in a way that reflects the content and context. For example, "Campus_Fountain_Ambience_Oct12.mp3" gives insight into the recording's contents.
